If I could go back 13 years when I started my marketing business, I would do things a little differently. Of course, I learned a lot during my business trip and now I'm much more enterprising than I am today.

Recently, I started my second business - a craft business and was able to learn from my wisdom from my early mistakes. May you also benefit from these tips so you can succeed faster than me!

1. Invest in the right foot

With my first business, I didn't want to spend a dozen or so to spend on my own business if there was a chance to do it myself. But I realize that just because you can DIY doesn't mean you have to always be.

Example one: I developed my first site. And that was long before the days of constructive tools to use the site. So it seems that I, the civil designer, created it. Something to write at home. I remember my heart. I am currently using wix and exactly what I need for a reward service to customize the site.

2. Your DIY Marketing. . . but also pay for it

I'm lucky enough to lead a marketing company, so I was proficient at posting social media, writing blogs and sending emails to promote new business. But you may not be as marketing savvy as I am or focus on other aspects of running your business.

Know where your weaknesses are and spend money on them. Hire a temporary consultant to help with marketing you don't want or don't want.

3. establish your local presence

One other thing I started is the difference for me that is locally focused. In craft workshops in neighboring San Diego neighborhoods, I need to know the locals.

If you have a local trade association, I encourage you to focus on regular meetings and mixes, not just for sales purposes, but also for building relationships. I am a member of my business association and the relationships I have built over the years are now paid off: all I have to do is ask a local restaurant or warehouse owner if I can organize an event at their location and they are " Please help me.

I am attending the next community festival, so I will take my business to a place where hundreds of people can learn about it. It also allows me to share with people what I am doing and receive my feedback.

In addition, I was promoted in my local newspaper. Since I know my audience is in most of the blocks, I want them to focus on something I know they are reading.

4. Individual Entrepreneurship

What I didn't know when I started my own marketing business was the importance of keeping everyone involved in the business. One of the first things I did this time was open a separate business test account. This makes it easy to do business, so I know how much I made from a workshop. It also simplifies my tax return for me!

When I use Fresh Books to track my marketing company's costs and invoices, I've opted for Wave for a new business (because it's free!).

Also, instead of getting a second cell phone for my business, I decided to find a virtual phone number (Google Voice; both toll free) to be transferred by my phone. When I receive a call, my phone number is completely different from calls, and if I get a text message, I get an email notification.

5. Based on this customer relationship

I am in full swing to start this business and ready to grow. My main focus will be on repeat business: My hope is that the people who come to my satisfying seminars will tell you how fun it is to get into pasta and watercolor classes.

Since my customer base is still relatively small, I know my contact list very well. I can have a one-on-one relationship with each customer, and this is totally special. One thing I'm doing is offering coupon codes to past customers to attend future classes. Or if someone donates art supplies, I give them another discount. That way I can track each code and know where it comes from. I can also complete classes faster!
